Excessive sweating treatment (botulinum toxin)
Botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport) is also used for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) treatment. Botulinum procedures may completely elliminate sweating in the armpits (axillae), palms of hands and feet. An injection of skin with a low dosage of, received from bacterias called Clostridium botulinum, botulinum toxin type A, is followed block of function of nerves that supply exocrine glans. It prevents them from sweat secretion. Nerve endings block maintains for 6-12 months and after that time new nerve endings are created, and they substitute the earlier blocked ones. This means that the treatment results last for few months.
Lately it is the most widely used and recommended metod of excessive sweating treatment. According to the statistics, in 80% of patiets the response to this treatment is good, but there are people who do not respond or the respond is unsatisfactory. It happens so in 20% of patiens and all they can do is to use antiperspirants and other available methods.
During the procedure low volume of botulinum toxin is injected superficialy into intradermis. Most of the patiens find the treatment minimalny painful, but sensitve people may reqiure usage of anaesthetic cream. Procedures performed on palms of hands and feet usually do not require anaesthesia. The procedure itself takes few-to-several minutes and after it patient may carry on everyday activities. The results are visible after few-to-several days, they last few months and sometimes even up to a year (armpits). After this time it requires a repeatition.
